Association of Professional Ball Players of America Information

The APBPA is a professional association that has been providing financial help professional clubhouse men, scouts, umpires, coaches, and baseball players since 1924.  There are no distinctions that are made between the minor and major league player.  The defining factor is this unique fraternity is the membership.

This association began when 12 former players came together in L.A. and decided that need to bring assistance to members of their profession that were less fortunate.  This association has helped more than 3,000 players and the membership within the association has grown to 11,000 members.  Individuals who have been help include Hall of Famers and individual that had only a short career.  The total amount of the assistance to date has reach in the millions.

This association has received endorsements from the National Association of Minor Leagues and Major Leaguer Baseball. The APBPA is financed by personal contributions, legacies, donations and membership dues.  This organization began for various reasons and some of which include the fact that many of the individuals they assist are players that are older and retired that may have succumbed to the infirmities and illnesses associated with old age.  There are also cases where individual where in the midst of tragic and sudden accidents or those who had to deal with financial emergencies beyond their control. Even though there are many cases today in which professional ball player are paid huge amounts of money, the reality is that only 1 in 10  ballplayers ever get a chance to play in the major leagues.
