A sport in which the competition is executed by one individual is what’s known as an individual sport and some examples include:
- Archery is an individual sport which is the skill, practice, or art of propelling arrows by using a bow. Historically, archery has been used for combat and hunting but in modern times it is mainly used for recreation. A bowman or archer is a person who practices archery and a toxophilite is an expert or a person that is fond of the sport or archery.
- Boxing is an individual sport that is also referred to as pugilism that is martial art and combat sport in which two participants fight using their fists. A referee usually supervises boxing during a series of rounds, which are 1 to 3 minute intervals, for individuals of similar weight.
- Bodybuilding is an individual sport which is a kind of body modification that involves great amounts of muscle hypertrophy. A person who engages in bodybuilding is known as a bodybuilder. Body builders exhibit their physiques to judges during a bodybuilding competition. These judges allocate points that are based on the appearance of the bodybuilder.
- Gymnastics is an individual sport whose activity involves the performance of exercises that require grace, balance, coordination, agility, flexibility, and physical strength. Some types of gymnastics include acrobatic and aerobic gymnastics, trampolining sports, and rhythmic gymnastics. Participants may include world class athletes, competitive gymnasts, recreational gymnasts, and children as young as two years of age.
- Golf is an individual sport that involves competing players known as golfers use various types of club and try to hit the ball into holes on the golf course utilizing the least amount of strokes. This is a precision ball and club sport that doesn’t require a playing area that is standard.
