Popular extreme sports

People go crazy about sports. They love the competition and excitement sports brings, but people nowadays are not just contented with sports—they want to go the extra mile. They want more competition and more excitement. This is where extreme sports comes in the picture. It is nothing like the traditional games everyone has watched. Extreme sports combines the athletic qualities of traditional sports while bringing in the excitement of several popular hobbies.

Surfing is one of the most popular extreme water sports. In surfing, surfers use a board to glide through the water on a wave. Surfing is now divided into two—short and long boarding. This depends on the design of the board used and the style of riding. They say that surfing was birthed in Polynesia and was brought to different parts of the world when the Europeans got a hold of it.

Windsurfing is another popular extreme water sport that is quite similar to surfing but only a bit more extreme. In windsurfing, surfers use a surfboard equipped with a sail. It is like combining surfing and sailing. The rider glides through the surface of the water using this equipment. Windsurfing did not become a hit until the 20th century.

Hot air balloons have gone from comic strips to extreme sports. It is not only a hobby but a sport as well. Humans used the hot air balloon as the first way of human air transport. While we have discovered many other ways to fly  in the air, the hot air balloon managed to still be around. The balloon has in it a bag that holds the hot air from the fire. The passengers sit in a basket that is hanging under the balloon. Technology for hot air balloons also improved. They now have fire-resistant materials at the mouth of the big balloon.
