Team Sports Information

A team sport involve players, in any sport, working together to achieve a mutual goal.  In team sports a group of individuals that are on the same team engage in an activity which allows them to work together to bring about the ultimate goal of winning against the opposing team.  This can be executed through various ways such as having a higher score than the challenging team.  Team members solve problems, manage conflict, communicate, make decisions, and set goals, in a trusting and supportive atmosphere so they can achieve their goals. Some types of team sports include:

  • Rugby League
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Cricket

There are some team sports which have practices with opposing teams in which players relate simultaneously and directly between them in order to achieve a goal. The goal usually involves the facilitation by teammates of the movement of a ball or related item in agreement with rules that have been set, in order to score points.  This typically involves physical and mental toughness, good preparation, and planning on the part of each team member.  A team sport relies on all team players equally working together for the task set before them. Each athlete   requires perserverance and patience to be a part of a team because the goal they are to achieve may take time. This involves good leadership, hard work and dedication over time.  However, there are some team sports that do not require teammates to facilitate the motion of a ball or a similar item in agreement to a set of rules for scoring. Examples of some of these sports include field and track, dragon boat racing, sailing, and swimming.  There are also some team sports that do not have an opposing team to challenge such as Mountaineering. With this sport, the difficulty of the walk or climb measures achievement.
