Sports training are specialized methods and strategies of an exercise that is used in a variety of sports in order to develop and prepare athletes for sporting events performances. In addition to traditional types of exercises, other training methods utilized by athletes include:
- Cross training-This type of training is executed in a variety of ways in order to improve the performance of the athlete. Cross training emphasizes the effectiveness of each training technique while also neglecting a methods shortcoming by blending it with additional methods that will address the weakness.
- Boxing training-This type of training is used by boxers so they can get fit for the sport of boxing. Writers, boxing trainers, and medical doctors all say that this method of training is the most Spartan of all other forms of sports training. If an individual is just starting out with this type of training, a training routine may consist of learning how to hit the double end bag, the speed bag, the heavy bag, in addition to jogging every day, calisthenics, skipping rope and shadowboxing in the front of a mirror.
- Altitude training-This type of training has usually been known as altitude camp and is high altitude training by endurance athletes for several weeks. The altitude is preferred over 2,500m above sea level but is typically at an Intermediate altitude because there are few locations that have high altitudes.
- Endurance training-This type of training is the intentional act of exercising in order to increase endurance and stamina. Exercises used to increase endurance usually are aerobic types as opposed to anaerobic exercises. The benefit of aerobic exercises for this type of training is that it develops muscles that are slow twitch.
- Fartlek-This type of training is conditioning in which stress is put on the entire aerobic energy system because of the repeated makeup of the exercise. In Fartlek training, the speed or intensity of the exercise changes which means anaerobic and aerobic systems are able to be put under stress.
